Admission Procedure

The admission process at Doulos Biblical Seminary (DBS) ensures that candidates have the opportunity to join our academic community based on their academic performance and commitment. The following information outlines the admission procedures for prospective students at DBS:

Admission and Renewal:

Admission to DBS is provisional and subject to the academic performance of the candidate. Renewal of admission occurs on an annual basis. The academic year at DBS commences in April of each calendar year, comprising two semesters. Each semester offers a minimum of six courses, selected by the Academic Committee in accordance with the curriculum set by the IATA.

Application and Prospectus:

Application Requirements:

To complete the application, candidates should submit:

  1. Duly filled application form
  2. Three recent passport-size photographs
  3. Church membership and Conduct certificate from Local pastor on the church letterhead
  4. Attested copies of certificates with mark lists (Original certificates must be produced during the interview)
  5. Certificate for age proof (Voter's ID card, Passport, Birth certificate, etc.)
  6. Three filled Reference forms: one each from a theological teacher with a recognized M.Th./Ph.D., a Christian friend, and a local pastor
  7. Certified medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner
  8. Personal Testimony (one page)

Admission Timeline:

Applications are invited from January 1st, and the admission process commences in February. Formal entrance and interview dates, arranged by the Admission Committee, will be communicated to candidates after receiving and accepting the application. The deadline for completed applications is March 23rd.

Entrance Examination & Personal Interview:

All applicants are required to take a written entrance exam consisting of three separate papers: General Knowledge, Christian Faith, and English (for English medium candidates). M. Div. candidates must also sit for a Departmental Exam. Successful candidates in the entrance examination proceed to a personal interview with the Admission Committee at the college. The interview assesses the candidate's motivation, commitment to Christian life, and theological education. The Admission Committee makes the final decision regarding admission and communicates it to the applicant.

Course Requirements:

Students at DBS are expected to adhere to the following general course requirements:

  • Regular class attendance is essential.
  • All requirements set by the Academic Committee for the specific course must be met.
  • Satisfactory completion of assignments, classwork, and assessments according to academic committee rules.

Academic Grading System at Doulos Biblical Seminary (DBS):

Examinations and assignments at DBS are assessed using a three-level grading system. The academic progress of students is evaluated through numerical/letter grades for each course, as outlined below:

First Class
  • Distinction A+ (80% and above)
  • Excellent A (75%)
  • Superior A- (70%)
Second Class
  • Very Good B+ (65%)
  • Good B (60%)
  • Satisfactory B- (55%)
Third Class
  • Average C+ (50%)
  • Passed C (45%)
  • Need Improvement C- (40%)
Failed
  • F (0 - 39%)

Grade Definitions:

  • First Class: Demonstrates an ability to search for relevant materials and critically assess them coherently.
  • Second Class: Demonstrates the ability to search for relevant materials and assess them, but lacks coherent and critical analysis.
  • Third Class: Shows familiarity with the relevant subject but lacks critical, coherent assessment and clear presentation.
  • Failed: Inadequate grasp of or presentation of the materials.

To successfully complete a course at DBS, all requirements must be met, including internal assessments and the final examination. Each course involves assignments and a final examination. Students who do not achieve the minimum passing grade (C-) for a course are required to take a Re-take examination. Failing to pass the Re-take examination necessitates retaking the course, subject to a fine as determined by the Academic Committee.

Academic Evaluation:

At DBS, grades are assigned based on continuous evaluation. While teachers have the flexibility to choose their assessment methods, a predetermined number of assignments are required as decided by the Academic Committee.
